Brooklyn Center resident charms kids with book series

A Brooklyn Center resident is charming preschool kids across the metro with her series of children’s books.

Paula Helgerson, a fashion stylist and former president of the Brooklyn Center Business Association, has always possessed an affinity for writing since childhood, but it hadn’t always been in the cards as a potential career.

“It turned more into a hobby,” said Helgerson. “I wrote for a school newspaper, I wrote for a church paper when I was an adult. Writing just wasn’t in the forefront, but I’ve always dabbled in writing short stories. I wrote a novel when I was in junior high for fun.”
